Begin

So I'm a rambler, a venter, a people pleaser and often way too mixed up in my own head to sort through all the thoughts that float around. I guess the best way to begin something like this is to tell about who I am, and what I hope to do here.

I'm Lauren. I'm a student at UNC, and want to be a writer, for what it's worth. I'm not a big reader, with the exception of my random running book list. I have a younger brother who, despite his best efforts, can't make me love him any less. My mom is a nurse, and I'm beyond grateful for her knowledge in that area (among other things) as I'm constantly calling her for advice. My dad is a pilot, and our family lifestyle as a result has been a blessing in many ways.

About me: I want very much to become a journalist of some sort. I haven't decided if I want to go the magazine route, or the newspaper route, and that's a tricky area to navigate. I love to talk to people and get their story, and I guess that's what led me to journalism. I'm also a politics junky, for better or worse.

My favorite colors are bright blue, Carolina blue and lime green. I've dabbled in several instruments but haven't stuck in there long enough to develop any kind of skill. I love photography, but any good shots I take are "happy accidents" rather than any sort of creative eye.

I love taking walks through nature, and SCUBA DIVING. I seem to encounter beauty and peace there. I'm sure I'll have more to say about such things, but that time will come later.

I'm Christian. Even though I struggle with the day-to-day applications of what that means, I'm rooted in Christianity. Since coming to college, I've grown a lot in my faith, as the decisions have been my own, and not that of any family member or group. I've never read the bible all the way through, and though I'm sometimes ashamed of that, am learning to give myself grace and work towards that goal.
